The Charles City School Board met in special session Thursday afternoon to name an acting superintendent for the remainder of the school year.
Current Superintendent Mike Fisher previously submitted his resignation effective June 30th to become the new superintendent of schools in his hometown of Oskaloosa beginning July 1st. However, Communications Director Justin DeVore explains Fisher’s need to leave his Charles City post sooner than expected.
Thursday, the School Board voted to approve Karl Kurt from Central Rivers AEA to serve as the acting superintendent for the District.
School Board President Pat Rottinghaus lso noted that district administrators Larry Wolfe and Bryan Jurrens will assist Kurt with day-to-day district level matters until Anne Lundquist takes over as interim superintendent for the 2022-23 school year starting July 1. The School Board officially approved a one-year contract with Lundquist during their regular meeting this past Monday night..
Naming an acting superintendent is the latest turn in the district’s effort to find Fisher’s successor. The district was forced to go the interim superintendent route for next school year after search efforts to find a replacement for Fisher hit a snag when many of the top candidates targeted by the School Board found other jobs and did not interview.
The district is expected to relaunch the search for a permanent superintendent later this year with Grundmeyer Leader Services, the same firm that helped bring Fisher to Charles City in 2018.
