On Tuesday, May 10, legendary San Jose Shark, Patrick Marleau announced his retirement from the NHL after 23 seasons.

Marleau's retirement news came via his Players' Tribune article titled, "Thank you, hockey".

A press conference was held at SAP Center where fans, coaches, staff, players, and Marleau's family gathered to honor his historic career in the game of hockey.

After twenty-one incredible seasons in Teal, Mr. San Jose Shark took the stage and gave an emotional speech about what hockey and the Sharks have meant to him.

During the press conference, Sharks president Jonathan Becher and interim GM Joe Will spoke. Will stated "We've never seen anybody like him, and we haven't seen anybody like him since."

Marleau's career was indeed full of memorable moments. A video was played during the press conference at SAP Center that highlighted many of his hockey career achievements.

Of course, Patty had a message he wanted to send the fans.

After the press conference wrapped up, Marleau, being the 'man of the people' he is, went straight to the crowd and signed jerseys, took photos, and had conversations with fans that have been watching him throughout his twenty-three-year career.

It was a memorable day not only for Marleau and his family, but for the Sharks and hockey community as well.
