Get crafty with upcoming Cardboard Boat Race at Bay St. Louis Harbor

If you’re up for something more adventurous, you may want to go ahead and start building a cardboard boat so you can race it next weekend.

The boat race challenges teams to craft their own cardboard vessels and race it against others.

There are awards for the best decorated boat so you’re encouraged to get creative. Hancock County Historical Society President Chris Roth said, “We don’t preview them before they show up with what they have. Some are very similar, some are very complex, well decorated. The kids will wear costumes. It’s very creative.”

The historical society provides cardboard sheets to the competitors as well as construction plans.

Visit hancockcountyhistoricalsociety.com to register and get started making your paper boat.

This year’s race is May 21st.
