Former Ohio State receiver Chris Olave signs with New Orleans Saints for $19 million

The New Orleans Saints selected Chris Olave with the 11th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Rookie contracts are set by the NFL scale, so as the No. 11 selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, you knew former Ohio State receiver Chris Olave was going to sign a four-year deal for $19.2 million, with a fifth-year option.

Well, he signed it.

As rookie camps are underway around the NFL, draft picks are inking deals with their teams, and Olave signed a fully guaranteed contract with the New Orleans Saints on Friday. Fellow OSU receiver Garrett Wilson, picked one spot ahead of Olave by the Jets, hasn’t yet signed. When he does, it will be for $20.5 million over four years. No. 12 pick Jameson Williams, the Ohio State receiver who transferred to Alabama last season, also signed on Friday with Detroit for $17.4 million.

They were Ohio State’s three starting receivers for the 2020 Buckeyes who reached the national championship game before losing to Alabama. Over the next four seasons, they’ll make more than $57 million combined.

Justin Fields, the quarterback who threw to those receivers in 2020, signed an $18.8 million, four-year deal with Chicago after the Bears made him the 11th pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

So that’s a nearly $76 million passing game for the 2020 Buckeyes.
