Lady Panthers win WAC crown for 2nd straight year

The Great Bend Lady Panther track and field team won their second straight Western Athletic Conference Championship Thursday in Dodge City, while the Panther Boys took 4th.

Great Bend scored 140 points to win the girls crown to finish comfortably ahead of second place Hays who scored 73. The Lady Panthers won 11-events leading the way for head coach Lyles Lashley to be named WAC Girls Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

For the Boys, Kaiden Esfeld won the 800 and took second in both the 3200 and 1600 to be named WAC runner of the year for the second straight season.

The Panthers compete next at the 5A Regional meet next Friday, May 20 in Emporia.
