We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about lotsa shows including Magnum P.I., Candy, B Positive and Grey’s Anatomy!
1 | The Wilds fans, do you think Shelby is secretly Gretchen’s person on the inside? And how surprised were you to see Ben Folds as a recurring guest star?
2 | Did the literally unreal sunset background kinda pull you out of Magnum P.I.‘s big “feelings”/kiss scene? (Shades of the Castle wedding?)
3 | As much as you’ve wanted NCIS: Los Angeles‘ Deeks and Kensi to start a family, is potentially adopting two young women what you had in mind?
4 | Did you appreciate Riverdale‘s callback to Miss Grundy, who we haven’t heard from since way back in Season 2? But also, does Betty really think we just started using the term “grooming” in terms of sexual predators?
5 | Say what? Fear the Walking Dead‘s John Sr. didn’t have time to gut a walker and smear himself with guts before fleeing with baby Mo, but he did have time for endless goodbyes with Grace and June? And even though John Sr. wanted to give his friend a head start on his getaway with the tyke, wouldn’t Morgan have insisted on humanely putting him down rather than letting him get devoured alive by walkers?
6 | Why was Bob Hearts Abishola‘s Chukwuemeka fully dressed in his hotel bed, under the covers, while FaceTiming Kemi to check on Ogechi? Also, would you have ever guessed that Ebunoluwa (Abishola’s mom) is supposed to be 78 years old?
7 | While we appreciate The Neighborhood‘s attempt to address the controversy surrounding Critical Race Theory, was it perhaps too weighty a subject matter to relegate to the B-plot in an episode largely focused on Patti LaBelle’s introduction as the Butler family matriarch? Speaking of which, surely there’s an extended cut of LaBelle and the cast singing “Lady Marmalade,” right?
8 | On The Good Doctor, wouldn’t Lim’s chief concern about Claire becoming chief of surgery in Guatemala be that she would still be a resident had she not left St. Bonaventure? She started her residency the same year as Shaun, Park and Morgan, no? As for scrapping their Hulu-funded wedding at the very last minute, wouldn’t Shaun and Lea somehow be indebted to the streamer? Surely they had a contract of some sort…
9 | Should someone tell Candy‘s writers that Target didn’t come to Texas until 1982, and the miniseries is set in 1980? Was it just us, or was Candy‘s Jessica Biel going for a young Sophia Petrillo look?
10 | After all this build-up, did Naomi villain Brutus’ “Bleeding Gums Murphy” persona fail to scare you? Why are his henchmen more frightening?
11 | On This Is Us, wasn’t Kevin’s grand, selfless gesture to serve as Rebecca’s primary caregiver — which required a lot of thought and planning — undercut by the fact that he didn’t have the decency to privately float the idea by sister Kate (AKA the person entrusted with their mother’s care) instead of springing it on her at an all-hands family meeting? And when teenage Kate referred to The Big Three as “two winners, one dud — kinda like Hanson,” which Hanson brother do we think she was dissing?
12 | Can we talk about Frost’s “bucket list” from The Flash (above), and why swing dancing with Judd Nelson was on it (and somehow checked off)?
13 | As TVLine reader Kflem commented: Didn’t the fire box from Survivor‘s Do or Die twist look slightly redder than the other two skull boxes?
14 | Chicago Med‘s Will as Hannah’s landlord: bad idea or terrible idea?
15 | So on Chicago Fire, Emma’s game is to get a job working with/for a bunch of people who don’t trust her…? Very sound!
16 | Since neither the Roseanne revival nor The Conners has ever actually mentioned whether or not Jackie was married before — the Powers That Be have only ever confirmed that her son Andy was retconned — were you listening closely to Wednesday’s episode to hear whether anyone referenced Jackie’s first marriage to Fred? Perhaps it’ll be mentioned before she and Neville walk down the aisle in the May 19 finale?
17 | On A Million Little Things, isn’t it weird how often and easily Theo’s parents lie to him?
18 | Was anyone expecting the Domino Masters finale to have the most drama, outbursts of tears, breakdowns and bleeped expletives of any Wednesday-night program?
19 | Why would The Flight Attendant‘s Cassie and Davey have been booked a(n empty) seat apart, as Black Market Carol chose to enforce? Also, if Annie was worried for Cassie’s life, wouldn’t she send a terse text versus leave a voicemail?
20 | Have any series short of Pose tried harder — or done a better job of trying — to further understanding of the trans community than Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy, which both put trans stories front and center Thursday?
21 | Does the attitude that Grey’s Anatomy‘s Bailey threw at Nick constitute a hostile work environment? Or can such a label not be applied to a situation involving a temp?
22 | We don’t expect the cancelled B Positive to be rescued, but what about Cannoli the Dog? Can one of Chuck Lorre’s other sitcoms take him in?
23 | On SVU, wasn’t pre-cana (aka pre-wedding) couples’ counseling a rather weak reason for Carisi to be at the Staten Island church, given that he hasn’t even asked Rollins to marry him yet?
Hit the comments with your answers — and any other Qs you care to share!
#3. No it is not. Maybe if they were a bit younger (eight or nine) but these girls are damn near eighteen. I understand not wanting them to have a baby bc w their jobs and it being TV when would they be there for him/her.
It spotlights the plight of older teens that seek to be adopted and the new trend of adults being adopted my older childless parents who want to enjoy grandchildren but never had children.
14 Chicago Fire
Just what I was thinking as well. If she gets her way, it will be torched earth for her. And Brett, why would she want to work for her. Conniving, but not smart.
Better question: Why the fork did Violet just hand over her phone with all that incriminating evidence?? It was such an obvious setup, it was almost painful to watch. Not as painful as the forced drama between Kidd and Severide, but a very close second.
Stella’s been a monster since she returned from the shadows. Chicago Fire can’t seem to write women characters without making them into some intrusive, busybody, saintly, power ogre. I’m just glad that they had Severide set her straight at the end. She needs to go back on the road, and Kelly needs to run far away from her. The season finale description is giving hope about Emma’s outcome.
1 – The question is why use that bad green screen (they knew they CGI team wasnt that good for a long time) when every day there is a beautiful sunset at HI. They just had to find the roof of a building.
14 – Will always need a bad plot, if not, isnt chicago med.
On Magnum as soon as I saw the sunset I thought it would turn out next season to have been a dream or a daydream.
5) As I’m prone to saying every week, these days, any question about logic involving Fear the Walking Dead gets tossed on an ever growing pile of frustrating absurdities. The show seems to pride itself now on not making a lick of sense.
14. No, it’s a great idea from Will’s view because too often he thinks with something other than his brain. Instead of investing in apartments he should’ve used his funds to go find out if he has a chance with Stevie.
22. Annaleigh Ashford has the same look on her face with the dog that she did when the scene called for her to kiss my man
Middleditch.
11. I felt personally affronted on Isaac’s behalf in that moment.
If The Conners are pretending that Andy never existed, then they’re doing the same thing about Jackie’s marriage, because she married Fred because he got her pregnant.
Did anyone find it weird that Cisco wasn’t at Frost’s funeral?
Now that you mention it, Yes!
The whole ep felt weird.
Honestly The Flash hasn’t felt like the same show since crisis. They don’t feel like family, and Frost’s death felt over dramatised.
Too much Chester and Allegra and Cecile these days.
I don’t understand how they thought Cecile could help on that mission to stop Blockbuster.
Also, are the people of Central City not supposed to know that Allegra is a meta and works with Team Flash? She wears no kind of mask to hide her identity, used her powers at that bar in front of a civilian but her bratty coworker wants to right a story about the people helping The Flash. Umm, just go 2 desks over from yours.
#10 – Gonna miss Naomi. Really enjoyed that show. The lead actress is very engaging. The mystery was interesting. Really wanted to meet “the 26”. Disappointed to obviously being in the tiny minority. Ahhhh well.
#17 AMLT – They have always treated Theo as if the he was a mentally impaired 5 year old.
#21 GA – The +50 y.o. doctors have been acting like a bunch of mentally impaired 5 year olds over the past few episodes. The constant temper tantrums is ridiculous considering their profession and ages.
11. Kate seems to have spontaneously decided to announce her big decision at breakfast in front of everyone, including non-family members. I would imagine Kevin had planned to broach his own proposal privately with just her and Randall but was pre-empted by her poor timing.
1. No, I think it was a misdirect and that we should probably be more suspicious of Toni, just because they focused on Shelby, but also had that really random flash forward where Shelby seemed pleasantly surprised to see Toni in the audience and then Gretchen approached her after the show. That implies Gretchen and Toni may have come together.
19. I might be wrong about this but I think we Davey initially showed up, he quickly made an excuse that his husband couldn’t get time off of work, so that might have been his seat. Of course, at that point in the trip, I think he might have either stayed in LA or returned to Denver with the idea that was where Davey would be going to after he and Cassie’s trip to New York. Especially because I imagine Davey told him about the mom surprise and that was why he actually called Cassie once he figured she was about to board to see if she knew yet.
9. I am pretty sure there were Targets in Texas and Oklahoma as early as 1969. It was one of the first places they expanded to due to population growth. Not sure about the locations though. Also, the woman’s hair did look like that so at least they stayed true to her booking photo. It was kinda the height of the perm movement. Apparently it was a popular style back in 1980, as my mom sadly has the pictures to prove.
You appear correct. A Google search of “1st target in texas” brings up an article from dallasnews in 2012 that says “Target opened its first Texas store in 1968 on Montford Road in north Dallas. It’s one of the oldest in the chain outside of Minnesota where it’s headquartered.:
Not sure why Google shows first Target in Texas as 1982. The Target in Plano, where Candy shopped, was there when my family moved to Plano in 1978.
After you setup the romantic position at the end of last week now you’re going to cancel the show.
Don’t end it now! Forget the fake sunset. Continue the romance we have been waiting for.
That Magnum sunset was ridiculous. We were laughing about it the whole time and didn’t hear what they were saying. Now the show is cancelled and I feel bad.
You’re taking all the good shows off the air and putting such stupid things on that don’t even make sense I don’t find it funny I find them ridiculous and unfortunately you’ve gotten rid of the good shows
“On The Good Doctor, wouldn’t Lim’s chief concern about Claire becoming chief of surgery in Guatemala be that she would still be a resident had she not left St. Bonaventure?”
Probably not – Guatemala is a developing nation with the same chronic shortage of qualified medical help as the rest of the developing world, and it’s a place that lacks the luxury of extended-length residencies for med students.
“Should someone tell Candy‘s writers that Target didn’t come to Texas until 1982, and the miniseries is set in 1980?”
Even as a child of the ’80s who grew up in Dallas I’d say this is excessively nitpicky! Also, pick nearly any series or film set in the ’80s or ’90s (even in part), and you’ll likely see at least one anachronism. (Off the top of my head, “Black Widow” had several in its opening sequence set in 1995.)
“Can we talk about Frost’s “bucket list” from The Flash (above), and why swing dancing with Judd Nelson was on it (and somehow checked off)?” – Huh – I somehow missed that entirely, and I usually catch this kind of thing. That said, I’d rather talk about why a show that’s already lost so many series regulars killed off a character played by one (particularly since Caitlin will be returning next fall, in what I’m guessing will be its final season).
“Why would The Flight Attendant‘s Cassie and Davey have been booked a(n empty) seat apart, as Black Market Carol chose to enforce?” Again, this is a little nitpicky. I’m more curious why an airline called Imperial Atlantic has nonstop flights out of JFK *and* LAX to seemingly every destination on the planet – including, in this episode, a domestic nonstop between those two airports. (Every prior show has suggested it’s a wholly international airline.) Also, not even Icelandair has a LAX-to-Reykjavik nonstop, and they’re the lone airline that realistically would.
I lived in Texas from 1976-1980 and there most definitely was a Target in northwest Houston
My wife recently did a rewatch of “Castle” and I knew she’d reached the Wedding Green Screen of Doom when she yelled, “Ew, what is THAT?!” I still have PTSD from that visual, and I only saw it in screen caps, having given up on the show before that aired. I’m pretty sure if you looked up “yikes” in the dictionary, that shot would be there.
.
And regarding number 3, I love the full-circle narrative happening there, given what teenage Kensi and Deeks went though (her life on the streets after her dad died; him having to shoot his father.) And obviously, many kids age out of the foster care system, so I like the fact they’re opting to go the non-baby route.
Magnum PI needs to be rescued by another network!
Completely agree. PLEASE. I’ve decided that with all the cancellations I’m jumping ship to ABC (slightly) and I’m still very angry and disgusted with ION TV getting rid of NCIS:LA. Now I don’t have anything to do on Monday. IONTV give us back NCIS:LA.
I completely agree! Why cancel a show that has excellent ratings? I don’t know who is making the decisions over there, but they have a solid show, a great cast, and outstanding storylines. I am hoping that they either come to their senses or that another station realizes the mistake CBS is making and lets the series continue!
2. YES. it was obvious.
3.I think their hard times as teens playing a factor for adopting two girls. but do they know what they really want? Trying IVF and adoption for a baby ?then suddenly fostering and adopting teens?
14. bad idea if they planning to keep will from growing but It’s time for Chicago med to scrap reckless behavior and impulsive form will character description. 7 season and circling from same stories for will.
15. and directly threating the parametric chief.
21.very and her using stress and not wanting to fail as an excuse for such a behavior.
21. Actually it’s not a hostile work environment. That requires that it be based on a protected class, which it wasn’t, and it must be pervasive. As it stands, it was a one time occurrence with someone who doesn’t appear to fit a protected class category, so it’s not hostile work environment. It is unprofessional, however.
#9 Seems pretty obvious she was going for the Candy Montgomery look.
#3, Not in the slightest. Those girls look like they’re in their 20’s instead of under 18! What good could come out of having 2 nearly grown up girls around?
…..and that, for me, is the issue. The actresses (esp Rosa) looks like she’s at least 21.
gonna miss my 2 favorite shows..MAGNUM PI and B Positive. They had great characters and plots. Comedy and vibes between main characters.
please have another network pick them up. they won’t be sorry
5. They addressed both of these. He didn’t want the baby to get sick from the guts. And John Sr. wanted to give Morgan a distraction. Why he didn’t scream as the walkers were biting him is the question I had. After Morgan escaped, screaming would have drawn more walkers to him as he was dying.
