To say that the Yankees are playing well of late would be an understatement. New York has established itself as one of the best teams in baseball with a strong lineup and great contributions from both the starting pitching and bullpen. After breaking the game open in a victory on Thursday, the Yankees will look to improve to a league-best 24-8 on Friday. Gerrit Cole gets the call for New York, while Vince Velasquez takes the mound for Chicago.

New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox odds
As to be expected, the Yankees are the prohibitive favorites in this one. New York is listed at -175 on the money line, while Chicago is a +150 underdog at FanDuel sportsbook. A $17.50 bet on the Yankees money line would return $10.00, while a $10.00 bet on the White Sox would return a profit of $15.00 if they pull off the victory. The total (or over/under) is listed at 8, with odds of approximately -110 in each direction.

New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox run line prediction: Yankees -1.5 (+105)
The Yankees managed to win the series opener while starting Luis Gil in his season debut. Now Cole, their ace, will toe the rubber on Friday. Outside of a season-opening start against the Red Sox, Cole has been dominant. The right-hander has surrendered just one earned run in his last three starts, while striking out a combined 25 batters. Following a slight dip in performance a season ago, Cole’s spin rate is back to being one of the best in the league and the Yankees ace is cruising.
While Chicago will likely have trouble hitting Cole, the Yankees’ lineup should be able to attack Velasquez. Although Velasquez picked up a win in his last outing, he was hardly dominant in the process. Against power hitters like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, Velasquez will need to be sharp or things could get disastrous in a hurry. New York’s bats have heated up and that has played a major role in the team winning 15 of its last 17 games. There is no reason to expect anything different on Friday.
While Chicago has been better recently, there are still questions to be had about consistency. In fact, if the likes of Tim Anderson or Jose Abreu have an off night, the White Sox could be in serious trouble. New York’s lineup is producing at a high level and the Bronx Bombers are backed by the league’s best bullpen ERA. The Yankees are the more consistent team and they should take care of business by covering the -1.5 run line on Friday.
New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox total prediction: Under 8 (-115)
The combination of Cole and the Yankees bullpen should be more than enough to keep the White Sox offense at bay. Since Cole can be expected to go deep into the game, the bullpen shouldn’t have much work to do. Chicago may not have much success at the plate, so New York can still pull off a multiple-run victory while keeping the game relatively low-scoring. Even against a struggling Rangers bullpen, the total went under in all three games of the Yankees’ previous series. And if Velasquez is able to go 5.0 innings or so while surrendering only a few runs in front of a decent White Sox bullpen, runs could be scarce in the late innings. The game could start out rather slow, but the Yankees should do just enough at the plate to maintain a steady lead throughout the game without the threat of a shootout emerging. This one will likely stay under the total.
