Joe Don Chitwood, the police chief in the Hughes County town of Calvin, was arrested Thursday by agents with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
The investigation began last month after agents got information that Chitwood was allegedly using and selling methamphetamine, according to an OBN spokesman.
Agents served a search warrant at Chitwood’s home in Wetumka and found small amounts of methamphetamine, according to OBN.

“Meth is the leading killer among drug-related deaths in Oklahoma. And for a peace officer to be responsible for putting more meth on the streets is a disgrace to the proud men and women in law enforcement who put their lives on the line every day to protect our citizens from the deadly consequences of substance abuse,” OBN Director Donnie Anderson said in a news release.
