Bedford County Public Schools is closing the Bedford Elementary School campus Friday, due to a high number of teachers who have tested positive for COVID-19. The closure will continue through Monday, May 16.
In a statement to families, Principle Marti Bradt, says that a significant number of individuals tested positive for the virus, and more than half of the teachers are showing symptoms.
The school is unable to fully staff all the classrooms to maintain in-person instruction.
Bradt says their Health Services team continues to monitor cases and pending test results relating to COVID-19. The school plans to use the temporary campus closure to sanitize the campus.
The elementary school will be meeting for a virtual learning day. The cancellation includes all co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
Teachers will work with students when they return to campus to complete any assignments.
