Ipswich dominates Lake Region Conference track meet, Milbank sweeps NEC titles

Ipswich claimed both team titles at the Lake Region Conference track meet earlier this week in Ipswich.

The Warner boys finished second in the team race, while Aberdeen Christian was fourth. In the girls division, Northwestern was second and Aberdeen Christian fifth.

Kadlec dominates dashes

On his home track Tuesday, Ipswich’s Ty Kadlec took home both the boys 100-meter and 200-meter dash titles.

In the 100, Kadlec edged teammate Colby Sylte. Logan Permann of Warner took third, while Ben Rohl of Aberdeen Christian placed fourth. 

In the 200, he edged Rohl, who had a personal record of 23.55 seconds. Sylte was third.

Gedtiz finds success in hurdles

Ipswich’s Carter Geditz won the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdle events. 

In the 110 hurdles, he finished in 15.93 seconds. Hunter Cramer of Warner took second, followed by Clayton Dulaney of Warner.

In a nine-man field in the 300 hurdles, Geditz edged Cramer once again for first place.

Guthmiller's big day

Marley Guthmiller, an eighth-grader for Ipswich, had her athletic abilities on full display at the conference meet, winning three individual events. 

Guthmiller won 100-meter and 300-meter hurdle races. In the 100 hurdles, she set a personal record of 17.39 seconds, edging out Faulkton Area's Presleigh Martinmaas. Guthmiller finished ahead of Warner's Ava Nilsson in the 300 hurdles. 

Guthmiller also won the girls pole vault.

Boekelheide wins three short-distance events

Northwestern's Jessica Boekelheide showed up in a big way for the Wildcats, winning the girls 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes. 

In the 100, Boekelheide, a senior, edged Aberdeen Christian’s Shawnteah La Croix with a time of 12.72 seconds. La Croix finished in 13.2 seconds. Joy Rohrbach, also from Aberdeen Christian, finished third.

Boekelheide beat La Croix once again in the 200, with a time of 26.76. La Croix claimed second in 27.07 seconds. 

In the 400, Boekelheide finished in just over a minute to beat Frederick Area’s Morgan Sumption by nearly two seconds.

Aberdeen Christian athletes claim five events

For the Knights, the girls’ relay teams were a highlight, winning both the 200-meter and 800-meter relays. 

In the 200 relay, the team of Rohrbach, La Croix, Payton Skarin and Ali Isakson combined for a first-place finish, more than three seconds ahead of Warner. 

In the 800 relay, the winning team was comprised of Rachel Beaner, Grace Kaiser, Kathryn Steger and Grace Steger with a time of 10:54.83, which was ahead of Warner’s second-place time of 11:05.9.

Beaner also placed first in the 3,200-meter run with a personal-best time of 12:47.71. Frederick Area’s Sofia Losure was second. 

Ruth Hulscher won the girls discus and  Abe Kretchman the boys triple jump for the Knights.

The Region 1B Track and Field Meet is scheduled for Thursday in Britton. Field events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m., while the track events will begin at 11 a.m.

Milbank sweeps Northeast Conference team titles

Milbank grabbed both the boys and girls team titles at the Northeast Conference meet Thursday in Britton.

In the boys division, it was the sixth-straight conference crown for the Bulldogs, who were followed by Webster and Roncalli.

On the girls side, Roncalli was second and Groton third.

Schwenn wins four events, Batchelor three

Bennett Schwenn, a senior from Milbank, won the boys 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long and triple jumps.

In the 100, Schwenn edged teammate Sawyer Gauer. In the 200 meter, Schwenn nosed out Roncalli's Jayden Munroe, while Gauer took third. 

In the long jump, Schwenn recorded a distance of 21-11.75; besting Redfield's Elliot Komraus. In the triple jump, Schwenn dominated again, this time with a distance of 43-03, which was easily better than Webster's Jaydon Keller at 41-10.5. 

Max Lightfield (110 and 300 hurdles), Garrett Mertens (high jump) and Ryker Trevett (shot put) all added wins for Milbank. The boys 3,200-meter relay team of Payton Brown, Grant Van Peursem, Isaac Graham and Bryan Meyer also took first.

For the girls, Milbank got wins from Ashlynn Batchelor, who picked up victories in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. Isabella Anderson won the 400-meter dash. The Bulldogs also won the 400-meter and 800-meter relays.

Fiedler leads Roncalli, wins four events

Morgan Fiedler won the 100- and 200-meter dashes for Roncalli. In both races, she finished ahead of Redfield's Camryn Rohlfs and Milbank's Siera Wenzl.

Fiedler continued her success in field events, winning the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump, Fiedler recorded a 16-01 mark. In the triple jump, her winning distance was 34-11.25, her best of the outdoor season.

Ulmer takes first in 300-meter hurdles

Roncalli's Ella Ulmer finished the 300-meter hurdles in 50.45 seconds to win the event and edge Sisseton's Rylie Huff and Clark/Willow Lake's Zoe Nichols. 

Relay teams lead Groton

Andrew Marzahn, Keegan Tracy, Kaden Kurtz and Teylor Diegel made up the Groton boys 400-meter relay team, which took home first, edging Milbank by three-tenths of a second.

In the he the girls' 400-meter relay, Jerica Locke, Kennedy Hansen, Kella Tracy and Laila Roberts were part of the team that also beat Milbank to win the race.

Tacy, along with Faith Traphagen, Taryn Traphagen and Rylee Dunker, also claimed the 800-meter relay.

Hamlin's Leiseth breaks meet records in throws

Hamlin's Gracelyn Leiseth shattered her own meet record in the girls' discus with a throw of 155-6 and also set a new mark in the shot put with a 48-5.5 heave.
