I am once again entertained that the Fremont County Commissioners are passing a resolution without doing their homework. I now see that they are allowing the homeowner to not source out a water well but to make the decision to choose a cistern to supply their water needs.

I’m in favor of homeowners having a backup supply that they can tap into in cases of low volume or fire safety. The average person uses 100 gallons of water per day, multiply that by the total number of occupants per home.

The boundaries for the Dakota Aquifer, which is a Type I well, can be found on the Division of Water Resources website: water.state.co.us
The remaining area of Fremont County is supplied by Type II wells, which are developed in the fractured granite. In certain areas, the source of water is limited. In these situations, the Building Department requires two licensed well contractors to submit a letter referring to the
questionable property. They will only submit a letter if the area in question has been known to be difficult to reach water or the quality of water is questionable.

Have you acknowledged the cost of electricity? Are we going to allow generators? Wood is at an all-time high, does this mean that RVs will now be allowed to be permanent structures since wood is costly and builders’ schedules are so far out?

Drillers schedules are out due to demand. This demand should not be placed on our cities’ municipal water departments.

Our company will write a letter to help assist homeowners to secure their building permits, stating that we have filed for a well permit and will have them on our drilling schedule. We will not write a letter asking the county to approve the build without a well unless we have first-hand knowledge of the lack of water or the quality of water in that area.

This resolution is putting undue burdens on the cities to provide water to a rural area because a homeowner has decided on the cistern over the well. The first customers to be turned off water consumption is the water haulers.

Please educate yourself and those who will be most likely to be without water!
