Hospital Week Feature: Operational Logistics Coordinator

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - “So in this office we have two sides. The one side, which is the ambulance dispatch we dispatch all the ambulances to the calls 911 calls we’ll do non-emergent transfers from different facilities in town. We’re also in charge of keeping track of when we go out of town and out of state for those transfers as well. The other side of our job is more between the doctors connecting doctors for transfers or consults and setting things up on that end,” said Wyoming Medical Center Operational Logistics Coordinator Lacey Slominski.

Working as an operations coordinator can be a busy job. The number and types of calls the community makes for medical help changes how any given shift as an Operational Logistics Coordinator will look.

“That every day is different... You know we can have crazy crazy days where it’s non-stop radios and phones going off constantly, and we’ll have other days and even though there are bit of a slower days, we’ll still get a phone call for stuff that we’ve never had to deal with before, and so we’re trying to use our resources and get people connected where they need to be,” said Slominksi.

For Lacey, this job was a natural progression from her work as an EMT Firefighter with the Evansville Fire Department. She still works with the fire department while maintaining her job with WMC.

“I kind of stumbled into this position at the hospital, and it involves with the ambulance side you know it was kind of a little close to home of what I’ve been doing for the last several years, and it’s kind of a new and exciting adventure kind of getting more on the hospital and internal of a hospital side was kind of interesting,” said Slominski.

One of Slominksi’s many jobs includes coordinating between different medical facilities in Casper, across the state, and out of state when necessary.

“You know, they’ll send their patients here because they don’t have the resources that we do here, and so we are we help connect those doctors to get those patients what they need. Then even on the other side, that if there’s something that we can’t provide that needs to go to a specialty center like down in Denver or somewhere we set those up, so we’re kind of the behind the scenes and a little bit bigger picture for getting the care and setting that up and making that happen,” said Slominski.

Overall, Slominksi enjoys being able to serve the community through her job, even if she tends to be behind the scenes and not frequently recognized for her work.
