Cat Cuddling Her Newborn Kittens Melts Hearts: 'Adorable'

A video of a cat mom cuddling her newborn kittens has gone viral after the owner shared it on Reddit on Thursday, leaving people in tears, happy tears.

In the post, which has so far received 10,500 upvotes and 105 comments, the cat's owner, who goes by the username u/ra-banana, shared the video of their cat snuggling to her newborn kittens, with a caption that says: "My cat had 6 kittens and this is how she hangs with them."

According to data from cats.org, a cat pregnancy lasts approximately 63 to 65 days (around nine weeks). During that time, the cat mom, also known as the queen, will need to eat more than usual, especially in the last three to four weeks of pregnancy when she needs approximately 25 percent more food.

The first stage of cat birth, with contractions and panting, can last up to 36 hours. The second stage when the kitten is delivered lasts from 5 to 30 minutes per kitten. Time between delivery of kittens is usually 10 to 60 minutes. The third stage where they expel the placenta immediately follows.

The birth is usually complete within six hours after the start of the second stage, but can last up to 12 hours. A cat mom can have between one and nine kittens in one litter, but it is most common to have four to six. First-time queens usually have a small litter size.

Most users were impressed and emotional at the sight of the attentive queen. One user, AloneFallingFree, commented: "That is a solid kitty mama." BowTrek said: "She looks so tired! Poor mama." ArOss3rim added: "But somehow still satisfied.. or happy ^^ they're all cuties." Mittens11111 said: "The oxytocin is strooong!"

Another user, FlakeyGurl, commented: "I never knew I could relate to a cat more till mine had kittens. I can literally see the exhaustion on her face. Good thing she only has to put up with it for a few more weeks." _hic-sunt-dracones_ added: "She looks exhausted but also seem to enjoy motherhood. Really adorable."

Starstarstar42, came up with an unusual request: "They're all slightly different shades... Line them up by grey scale, DO IT!" And TB_Punters said: "Six Shades of Grey." RidigoDragon added: "Seven if you count the mother." QueenMyky pointed out: "They all look white for me hehehee nevertheless they are so cute." Crazycatlady331 said: "She reminds me of Duchess in The Aristocats."

LeGrandeBadger thanked the poster for sharing this content: "Thank you. I needed this. I found our oldest cat passed away in our side yard today. Just devastated. I needed some good brain bleach."

Other users urged u/raw-banana to spay the cat as soon as possible. BareKnuckleKitty said: "Please spay your cat and make sure all of the kittens get fixed too." Ok-Point4302 added: "She's beautiful, but please get her fixed. Cats are the most euthanized animal in shelters because there are just too many of them, and this doesn't help."
