COATS -- A Medicine Lodge man died Thursday when the cement truck he was driving overturned in rural Barber County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Anthony R. Peek, 58, was southbound on McAdoo Road in a 2013 Kenworth cement truck when he crested a hill about two miles south of Elm Mills Road, and his right front tire caught loose sand on the edge of the roadway.

Peek, attempting to avoid going into the ditch, overcorrected and went into the opposite ditch, where the truck overturned. The vehicle then rolled numerous times, coming to rest on its wheels.

Peek, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10 a.m. crash.
