LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A man was found not guilty in the killing of a man who was shot last September in a Lincoln apartment.
A jury found Lendell Harris, 24, not guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder or manslaughter and a gun charge in the death of 28-year-old Alonzo Jones, the Lincoln Journal Star reported.
Prosecutors said Jones was shot after he returned home on Sept. 5 to find Harris preparing to smoke marijuana with a woman they both were dating.
Harris told police he shot Jones when he reached for Harris’ gun during the fight. Harris called 911 and turned himself into police after the shooting.
Harris’ attorneys argued the shooting was in self-defense. The woman involved in the shooting gave conflicting testimony about what happened, the attorney said.
