George Murphy

BRIDGTON – George Murphy, 81, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Maine State Veterans Nursing Home in South Paris with is loving family by his side. 

He was born Nov. 6, 1940, in Cambridge, Mass., a son of the late Joseph F. and Ruth E. (Witham) Murphy. He graduated from Bridgton High School class of 1958, and joined the United States Navy. George met his future wife Theresa in 1963 on Hampton Beach, and they were married on June 5, 1965.

George was a self-employed carpenter and jack of all trades. He was very independent. He loved to sing and was one of the kindest people you would ever want to meet. He never complained and was extremely active in Our Lady Miraculous Medal Parish Catholic Church of Hampton, where he raised two sons. He recently moved back to the Bridgton area, a place that he adored.

He attended St. Joseph Church in Bridgton, and was a member of the church choir in Hampton and Bridgton. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus & Holy Name Society, a volunteer worker and Scout leader of Hampton Troop 177. He was also a member of the American Legion and Lions Club of Bridgton. 

He was predeceased by his loving wife Theresa Marie (Veilleux) Murphy in January of 2022.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving sons Patrick J., Daniel F.; his brothers Robert Murphy and Ken Murphy; and sister Elisabeth (Betty), all of Bridgton; and his four grandchildren. 

A Memorial Mass for both George and Theresa will take place at St. Joseph Church on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the High Street Cemetery.
