Twenty One Pilots frontman Tyler Joseph claims he was once involved in helping with music for the highly anticipated sequel “Top Gun: Maverick.”

“Funny thing, I was working with the music-placement person for the new Top Gun, on writing a new song for them, and then I believe Tom Cruise came in and just fired everyone,” Joseph told KROQ, a radio station in Los Angeles, Yahoo reported. “You’ve seen that new Top Gun trailer has been out for like three years. There’s been a few overhauls, and I was part of that.”

He said he didn’t get very far in the musical process before Cruise fired everyone. Tom Cruise. “I saw some scenes,” Joseph added. “They brought me in to show me some scenes and stuff, and I actually don’t think I started writing.”

Though another source argues Joseph’s claims aren’t true, saying Cruise never interacted with any music from the band. Yahoo reached out to Cruise and Paramount for comment, but no update yet.

Nevertheless, Cruise has a rumored reputation as harsh and difficult. While filming “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning” in 2020, audio leaked of the actor threatening to fire workers who didn’t follow COVID-19 protocols.

As for the “Top Gun” sequel, the film experienced several delays, many of which were caused by the pandemic.

Hence while the first trailer was released in 2019, Lady Gaga released a single last week from the soundtrack called “Hold My Hand.”

“When I wrote this song for ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ I didn’t even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film’s heart, my own psyche, and nature of the world we’ve been living in,” Gaga said. “I’ve been working on it for years, perfecting it, to make it ours. I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other — a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes.”

Gaga has a different experience with Cruise, calling working with him “a beautiful experience.”
