The incident happened in the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass.
According to Eagle Pass News-Leader, a Honduran couple was crossing the border with their own son, when some strangers handed them the little girl without any explanation and quickly fled the scene.
The couple then turned the two-year-old to border patrol agents. The note attached to the little girl had her mother’s name, number, and address in Dallas, Texas.
Border Patrol agents say they have encountered thousands of unaccompanied minors since October.
