Delta State to roll out new course material program, First Day Ready, this fall

CLEVELAND, Miss.—Delta State University students will now be better positioned to achieve student success from the very first day of class with the roll out of the new course material program, First Day Ready at Delta State.

Through the program, undergraduate students at Delta State will have access to all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes, digital materials and electronic books in a convenient bundle before the first day of class at an average student savings of between 35-50%.

Delta State’s First Day Ready program is being launched in partnership with Barnes & Noble College (BNC), which manages Delta State’s campus bookstore.

“We have been piloting this program for the past two years, and we’ve witnessed first-hand its benefits, including alleviating financial burdens associated with purchasing textbooks and equipping students with the course materials they need to ensure academic success,” said Delta State’s Director of Financial Reporting Kelvin Davis. “We are confident that implementing this program campus-wide will be beneficial and will help our students to be academically ready on the first day of class.”

By delivering all course materials via one highly convenient concierge service, First Day Ready at Delta State ensures students have access to their required course materials on or before the first day of class, allowing them to engage with course content from day one, making them better prepared and facilitating their academic success.

The program also offers full academic freedom for faculty, allowing them to select course materials they think are best for their curriculum and leverage BNC’s deep relationships with more than 6,000 publishers, creating a one-stop, simplified experience.

“We are excited about our partnership with Delta State University,” said Jonathan Shar, President, Barnes & Noble College. “First Day Ready will ensure students are prepared to begin learning on day one, driving greater student success while also offering a more affordable and convenient way for students to obtain their course materials. We look forward to working with DSU to continue delivering tools that empower academic success for all students.”

With First Day Ready, instead of purchasing materials a la carte, the cost is included in each student’s account at the same time tuition is charged.

In August, ahead of the fall semester, students will receive an email from the DSU bookstore prompting them to select their preferred delivery method. The bookstore will prepare materials for each student and notify them when materials are available for in-store pickup or have shipped. Digital materials will be automatically delivered to students within Canvas, the University’s online course management system.

Delta State will implement its First Day Ready program this August for the Fall 2022 semester.
