(670 The Score) Rookie Dominique Robinson's path to the Bears has been well-documented. A quarterback in high school, Robinson switched to wide receiver once he went to play at Miami of Ohio in an attempt to get on the field faster. Robinson wasn't done, though -- a series of decisions led him to switch again, this time to defensive end. Now, after being taken in the fifth round of the recent NFL Draft, Robinson is considered one of the more intriguing prospects of the Bears' rookie class.
Speaking on the Mully & Haugh Show on Thursday morning, Robinson described what exactly went into those decisions, how hard it was to adapt and what he feels he'll bring to a Bears defensive line that has been overhauled this offseason.
"Personally, I've always had a defensive mentality," Robinson said. "I'm a very aggressive player when I'm on the field. I played safety in high school, so I've played defense all my life as well. When I got to high school, I was forced to just play quarterback. But I've always had a defensive mentality. Learning how to rush the passer was different than playing safety, of course. Once I got it, I think rushing the passer was the easiest part of being a defensive line. At the time that I moved over, it was learning how to defend the run that a little harder. Once I got that, it got really easy."
Robinson added that the transition to defensive end started to really click while he was watching Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young -- who was then at Ohio State -- dominate offensive linemen.
