Mother Nature shook things up a bit Wednesday morning. People in Bozeman, Red Lodge, Livingston and Cody, Wyoming felt the shaking of a light earthquake.
A magnitude 4.2 earthquake happened on the east side of Yellowstone National Park Wednesday.
The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reported the light earthquake.
The epicenter of the shock was 23 mi NE of the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. A total of 5 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater have happened within 16 mi of the epicenter of this event since 1962.
The largest of these events was a magnitude 4.2 on March 25, 2008, 20 mi NE of Fishing Bridge, WY.

15 felt reports had been submitted for the earthquake, with shaking described as “light” to “weak.” Earthquakes like this are common in the Yellowstone region, where over 30 earthquakes of M4 or greater have happened since 1973.
