Who is Jason “Big Mama” Jones?

According to Jason” Big Mama” Jones’s website, he is a husband, a father, a radio host, a coach, and now a candidate for Lee County School Board District 4.  He and his wife, Sara has three children that have been or will be part of the Lee County School system.

Sometime In January 2009, Radio Station B103.9 dropped “The Drew Show” and replaced it with a new radio talk show called “The Wild Bunch Morning Show” with a new host Radio DJay Jason “Big Mama” Jones.

Jones was successful with the show over the last number of years. In the 2020 election cycle Jones had Sheriff Carmine Marceno on his show a number of times. After, the 2020 election Jason Jones placed an employment application with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Lee County Sheriff Office Employment Application and Background Check

The LCSO application was submitted on December 17th, 2020. Jones listed his career intentions for the position of Radio/Podcast Coordinator. It was found that Sheriff Carmine Marceno had referred Jones to place an application to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office as noted within the Applicant Referral Form.

An LCSO Background Report on Jason Jones was submitted on 04/06/2021. The Background Investigator noted at the bottom of the report, “I recommend a staff review“. Found on the LCSO background check report were a number of issues relating to traffic violations including Driving without a Driver’s License, Failure to Appear in Court, and other actions involving Law Enforcement.

Persian Gulf War / Operation DESERT STORM

The LCSO Background further noted that Jones while serving in the United States Army (6/1990 -7/1993) had been charged with Disorderly Conduct. It was further noted that separate from this incident of Disorderly Conduct, Jones had been court-martialed on other issues and was discharged from the military service for Bad Conduct.

Definition of “Bad Conduct” – Bad conduct discharges are often preceded by a period of confinement in a military prison. The discharge itself is not executed until the completion of both confinement and the appellate review process. Virtually all veterans’ benefits are forfeited by a Bad Conduct Discharge. Also referred to as the “Big Chicken Dinner”.

From Potential LCSO Employee to an LCSO Consulting Contract

It appears that employment with LCSO was dropped after the submission of the Background Report. On 04/20/2021 a “Service Agreement for Media Production Consulting Service” was signed by Jason Jones using the company name of Big Events Southwest Florida, LLC. Noted within the contract was an agreement that the LCSO would pay “$3,350.00 per month plus any additional expenses so long as such expenses are mutually agreed upon prior to their occurrence”. The Consultant Contract is signed by Jason Jones, Owner/Consultant of Big Events Southwest Florida, LLC, and Deputy General Counsel Abbi Smith of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and dated April 20, 2021.

According to the published website for Big Events Southwest Florida, the company provides DJ and other services to wedding events and other special gatherings. (Big Events Florida – Southwest Florida Wedding DJ Service)

Announcement By Jason “Big Mama” Jones – Candidate for School Board – District 4 Jason Jones has publicly announced his candidacy for the Lee County School Board – District 4 and immediately received $1000.00 from Friends of Carmine Marceno, a Political Action Committee (PAC), located in Venice, Florida. This is the maximum contribution that can be given to a person running for a political office in Lee County.

Is Jason Jones qualified to be placed on the Lee County School Board? Will this expand the political outreach of Carmine Marceno?
