New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba WILL NOT face any disciplinary hearing for his hit on Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby per Larry Brooks of the NY Post.
The incident occurred late in the second period when Crosby had his head down and Trouba tried to make a stick play on the puck. Both players collided and Trouba’s arm came up a little high. Crosby was shaken up and left the game. No penalty was called on the play.
No hearing for Jacob Trouba
New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba has become Public Enemy No.1 in the City of Pittsburgh. During last night’s 5-3 Rangers win over the Penguins to stay alive in Game 5, his hit injured captain Sidney Crosby.
“Did you see the hit?” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan fumed. “Then you probably have the same opinion I do.”
This morning, the Penguins provided the following update:
“Sidney Crosby will be evaluated when he goes back to Pittsburgh with us today. His injury is an upper-body injury. I’m not going to get into more specifics with that.” – Mike Sullivan
Trouba, 28, is a hard hitting defenseman, who has laid out several players this season with big open ice hits. Chicago’s Jujhar Kaira and Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon both felt what it’s like to get caught in his wake. Neither hit led to a suspension, and this one appeared more accidental than anything else.
“If you’re trying to throw a headshot with your stick hand it’s impossible,” former Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa said on Sportsnet. “He’s going stick on puck and it’s a bit of him bringing his arm in as Crosby’s turning. I think there’s no suspension.”
Looks like Bieksa was right.
Igor Shesterkin Hart Trophy Finalist
On Thursday, Igor Shesterkin was named one of three finalists for the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP. Toronto’s Auston Matthews and Edmonton’s Connor McDavid are the other two.

Shesterkin, 26, posted a 36-13-4 record to lead the Rangers to the playoffs and second place finish in the Metro Division. His .935 SV% and 2.07 GAA led the league. He is now the fifth Rangers goalie to be nominated for the Hart. If he wins, he’d be the first to do so since Chuck Rayner.
