Teen found dead in car in Detroit is missing 15-year-old Berkley girl: police

BERKLEY (WWJ) -- Berkley Police have confirmed that a teenager found dead in Detroit is a 15-year-old girl who has been missing for nearly three weeks.

Investigators said the body of Janiya Brown was found Wednesday morning in a car that had been stolen, allegedly during a carjacking.

The 2013 Chevy Malibu was found abandoned in an alley in the 8800 block of Burnette, near Joy and Burnett Street, on the city's west side.

The teen had been shot multiple times.

Police said Brown was a runaway from a her aunt's house in Berkely. She'd been staying with her aunt since late last month after moving from Cleveland where she had when away from home on at least two occasions.

Detroit police are now leading the investigation and searching for suspects.
