NORFOLK - A Petersburg man was arrested in Norfolk after trying to stab someone at a residence in the 300 block of North 8th Street early Thursday morning.

According to Captain Mike Bauer, police were called to a house after the caller said there was a bloody man at his back door that he didn’t recognize.

Officers had contact with 24-year-old Ryan Pelster who had multiple injuries to the face, legs and blood on his clothes. Norfolk Rescue responded and transported him to the hospital.

Officers identified a witness to the assault. The witness was able to provide the officers with a video recording of the incident. The video showed Pelster threatening another man with a knife.

The video showed Pelster standing over the man, who was sitting in a chair, holding the knife in an overhead manner. The man blocked the hand that Pelster had the knife in, and struck Pelster multiple times to defend himself from the assault. Pelster then left the residence.

The knife assault victim had a laceration on the top left of his head that occurred during the altercation. After Pelster was released from the emergency room, he was arrested for third degree assault, terroristic threats, and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
