Research from petkeen shows that in 2022, 70% of U.S. households (90.5 million homes) reported owning at least one pet, and out of those 90.5 million, 69 million have at least one dog, making dogs the most popular pet choice.

The second-most popular pet choice among American households are cats, with 45.3 homes owning at least one feline.

The same data shows that there are currently 197 dog breeds that are recognized by the American Kennel Club and the most popular dog breed in the U.S. has remained the Labrador since 1991.

Each year 3.3 million dogs enter shelters across the country, but only 48 percent of them are adopted, leaving shelters overcrowded. But the good news is that 620,000 of these dogs each year are reunited with their owners.

The internet loved Bennett the Hound's kindness. One user, Jade Mitch483 commented: "this is so adorable." Tomasz said: "The kindest dog ever." And Laura crawley added: "this is the cutest thing I've seen all day." Sara Parker wrote: "this is hands down the CUTEST thing I've EVER seen. oh god." Jennifer Eiermann added: "ugh. my heart! This Puppers heart is so pure."

Others shared their own experiences with their sweet, or sometimes not so sweet, dogs: Jumi commented: "my dog does this too he puts his favorite ball into the bowl then complains about how he can't eat."

Brooke said: "My dog knows the names of his toys and lines them up on my mum's bed but he doesn't try to feed them!" However, Starr Gambrell said: "My dog is a psychotic murderer…she would make Dexter proud," to which the original poster answered: "Hahaha each one to their own."

Angelicamillan961 said: "OMG!!!!! Makes me want to cry! So touching," while Herbal Unicorn commented: "Oh my heart! What a sweetie! Dogs are the absolute best!"

Katie and Ramone added: "Mine makes sure his giraffe never misses bedtime or tv time, constantly back and forth."
