Jack Dorsey on Twitter: 'I'll Never Be CEO Again'

Jack Dorsey has no intention of returning to his former role as Twitter CEO once Elon Musk gains control of the social network.

"I'll never be CEO again" Dorsey tweeted on Wednesday, responding to a tweet by Charles Wiand predicting Musk will "eventually just ask" Dorsey to take on the role again.

In a separate reply, the entrepreneur said "no one ultimately" should be Twitter's chief executive officer. As The Verge notes, that's probably a reference to the Bluesky protocol, which is a project aimed at decentralizing the microblogging platform.

In a series of tweets posted last month, Dorsey admitted his "biggest regret" was "Twitter as a company," adding that Musk's purchase, and therefore the "taking it back from Wall Street" is the "correct first step." He also thanks Agrawal and Musk for "getting the company out of an impossible situation."

Despite his central role in the company's founding, Dorsey has a contentious history with Twitter, which fired him as CEO in 2008 (though he stayed on the board). He returned to the lead position in 2015, but stepped down in November 2021 and was replaced by CTO Parag Agrawal. It's unclear how long Agrawal will hold the position now.
