4 SPCSD board members attend final board meeting

Tuesday night, four school board members of the South Pike County School District attended their final board meeting.

Board members voted to accept a bid from Kyle Herring of Arkadelphia to re-roof the gifted and talented building and the special education building. The total cost of the project will be $5,400.

Superintendent Brad Sullivan reported the district will hold a K-3 Boot Camp later this summer for identified students who need to improve their reading scores. Board members also approved Sullivan’s recommendation to hire an additional elementary position for either the 5th or 6th grade. Sullivan said the salary for the new position will be paid by using federal and ESSR funds. He also reported the district had a net increase of one student through the School Choice Act.

Chad Brinkley’s contract was extended for one-year.

And the board approved the purchase of a new electronic sign and signage on the two buildings in Murfreesboro. The bid was in the amount of $29,696. Sullivan said the sign will be paid for using the district’s growth money. He said the new sign will have a 5-year warranty and goes with tech support.
