HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Sheriff and incumbent John Rust won the Adams County Sheriff’s race in the primary election. He was up against former Hastings Police Captain and businessman Brian Hessler.

After the results rolled in showing that Rust won, Local4 News followed up with him about how he was feeling and what his plans are upon his likely reelection in November.

Rust also said he was grateful for the support from the community.

“I just look forward to building and continuing to improve things with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department to make it more efficient and to work with the citizens of the community to make things better and safer place for everyone to live,” Rust said.

Local4 News interviewed Hessler before the final election day results came down Tuesday night.

“I definitely think that law enforcement is what I’m good at, but I also think that I’m good at a lot of other things too,” Hessler said. “So, regardless of how this turns out, if my bid turns out to be unsuccessful, you know, at that point, my family can sit down and discuss where we go from here.”

Hessler also said his three sons helped him stay grounded through the entirety of the sheriff’s race and that he wanted to thank everyone for their support along the way.

Though there is always the option for write-in candidates on the November ballot, Rust will likely be reelected as sheriff in November.
