RIVERSIDE, Calif.(KNX) – As Riverside County animal officials battle overcrowded shelters, dozens of dogs are facing euthanasia this week.
John Welsh with Riverside County Animal Services told KNX News they’re dealing 500 animals coming into one of the four shelters in the county, with most of them being dogs.
“The reality is we’re bursting at the seams,” he said. “For every day we have a positive outcome we’re kind of in the red. Everyday.”
One of those dogs on the list – a 2-year-old lab/pitbull mix, got a second chance at a forever home.
After seeing a post on Facebook about the dogs up for euthanazation, Patil from Los Angeles County drove to Riverside. She told KNX News she specifically asked see the dogs on the list to be euthanized.
“There was so many dogs… there was nothing wrong with them,” she said. “I knew there were so many dogs on a list that would be put down immediately in three days.”
