Rezoning may pave way for new business

County supervisors re-designate site in Saluda; take back control of Cooks Corner location formerly earmarked for Tractor Supply store

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) voted, 5-0, Tuesday, May 3, to approve a rezoning of land in Saluda on U.S. Route 17 Business across the road from the Dollar General and Massey Urbanna Builders Supply Co. LLC, from Low Density Rural (LDR) to General Business (GB) and Village Community (VC).

The rezoning could lay the ground work for businesses such as Tractor Supply Company (TSC) to locate at the Saluda site. After the May 3 meeting, Kretz and Jamaica District Supervisor Wayne Jessie were asked by the Sentinel if the rezoning was done specifically to bring TSC to Middlesex. Neither, would comment on TSC coming to Middlesex.

It has been reported, however, some supervisors have been meeting with TSC officials and the Saluda location was one that was introduced to TSC when resistance arose to the Cooks Corner site.

In a related matter, the MCBS agreed on May 3 to take the ownership of RCE property back from EDA…
