Marc Benton says he’s a proud daddy that just can’t stop smiling. Marc and his wife Sherri just returned from Fairhope, Alabama where their daughter Jaclyn married her true love, Mark Bitonti, Saturday, April 30. It was a beautiful ceremony at an outdoor park on the bay followed by the reception that lasted until the wee hours of the morning. Jaclyn and Mark live in Northern Virginia but wanted a destination wedding. They were blessed with around 70 family and friends that made the trip to celebrate this special occasion.

By the way, Mark gets sworn in on Thursday, May 12, as a new Alderman on the Anderson Town Council replacing Alderman Carnell Carrell who is retiring. Congratulations and good luck.

Hope all mothers out there had as good a Mother’s Day as I did. We decided to stay at home and not fight the crowds for lunch. We had some good ole’ fried chicken, homemade potato salad, cabbage, baked beans, rolls and of course dessert. After lunch we sat outside under the shade trees and enjoyed the nice breeze all day long and watched grandkids, great nephews and neighbor kids all enjoy the water slide. Kind of like the celebrations we had when I was growing up – nice and relaxing.

Long-time Grimes County friend to many and especially to the Veterans, Carl Dry passed away last Thursday. Carl had many posts, including Post Commander at the American Legion McClusky Post 640 in Anderson as well as Post Commander at the VFW Post 4006 in Navasota. Carl was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, and his passion and mission was serving Veterans and Veterans in need. We will all miss him as he rests in peace.
