(670 The Score) Cubs shortstop Nico Hoerner exited his team’s game against the Padres in the second inning Wednesday due to right ankle soreness, the Chicago Tribune reported, after he earlier collided with an umpire in the field of play.

Shifted to the second base side of the bag, Hoerner tracked back toward center field on Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar’s long drive that went for a triple in the bottom of the first inning. As he did, Hoerner collided with the second base umpire in shallow center field and went down in pain.

Hoerner stayed in the game and struck out in the top of the second, then didn’t take the field for the bottom of the second. Ildemaro Vargas replaced Hoerner at shortstop.
