Kayakers rescued from the Thornapple River in Barry County

HASTINGS, Mich. —
Since April, ten adults, one child, and three dogs have been rescued from the Thornapple River in Hastings, according to the Barry County Sheriff's Office.

The rescues are due to a dead tree that fell on a sharp turn in the river.
The sharp turn is located upstream from Center Road causing difficult navigation.
The Barry County Sheriff’s Office, the Hastings Fire Department, and the DNR have responded to multiple calls where kayakers are needing to be rescued.
The river can still be utilized but with extreme caution, according to Barry County Sheriff's Office.
