Pitt Working Early Offers to 2024, 2025 Prospects
A yearly debate in the recruiting world is whether the timing of an offer really matters.
In other words, does a team have a better chance of getting a commitment from a player if they’re one of or the first teams to extend them a scholarship offer? Depending on your opinion, an argument and examples can be given for either side of that question. For example, Pat Narduzzi and Pitt were the first to offer local stars Rodney Gallagher, Ta’Mere Robinson, Anthony Speca and Quinton Martin, all of which now are major college recruits.
A few years later, Martin is the only one of those players that the Panthers seem to have a strong chance of getting a commitment from.
So, in the end, is too much made of when an offer is made?
With that being said, the Pitt recruiting department has been extremely busy over the last few weeks extending offers to freshman and sophomores across the country. In some cases, Pitt became either the first Division-I offer or the first Power Five offer for these players.
Over the last week, here are players that Pitt looked to make an early impression on by extending them an early scholarship offer.
*Pitt assistant quarterbacks coach Jonathan DiBiaso extended an offer to freshman quarterback Ashton Beierly from Chaparral High School in Temecula, California. This is the first D-I offer for this young quarterback.
*2024 offensive lineman Knajee Saffold (6-foot-4, 300 pounds) from Port St. Lucie, Florida. Saffold received this offer from Tiquan Underwood and this was Saffold’s first D-I offer.
*2023 offensive lineman Alex Woods from Port St. Lucie, Florida. Woods (6-foot-5, 275 pounds) received the offer from Dave Borbely and holds other offers from Appalachian State, South Florida, Tulane, Florida Atlantic, SMU, Troy and Akron. This becomes the first Power Five offer for Woods.
*Last week, Pitt became the first school to offer Penn Hills 2024 quarterback Julian Dugger.
*On Tuesday, Jonathan DiBiaso and Tim Salem extended an offer to 2024 quarterback Zach Sims from Alabaster, Alabama. Sims has already received scholarship offers from Columbia and Louisville.
*Tiquan Underwood and Pitt extend an offer to 2024 athlete Isaiah Roberts from Port St. Lucie, Florida. Roberts (5-foot-11, 165-pounds) holds an offer from UNC Charlotte. Pitt is his first Power Five offer.
*Wednesday, Pitt offered sophomore Jaylyn Monds from Fort Pierce, Florida. This is the first D-I offer for Monds, who received the news from Tiquan Underwood.
*Monday, 2025 quarterback Charlie Johnston from Mountain Brook High School in Birmingham, Alabama. This is the first D-I offer for Johnston.
*Ryan Manalac and Pitt extend an offer to 2024 offensive lineman Marcus Mascoll (6-foot-5, 295 pounds) from South Gwinnett High School in Atlanta, Georgia. This is Mascoll’s first D-I offer.
*Yet another offer from Pitt to a young quarterback with the latest offer going to sophomore Jakhari Williams from Macon, Georgia. This is the first Power 5 offer for Williams, who got the news from Frank Cignetti Jr. and Jonathan DiBiaso.
*A second freshman from Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach, Florida receives his first Power 5 offer from Tiquan Underwood and Pitt. This offer goes to 2025 athlete Khamani Robinson.
*Saturday morning, Tiquan Underwood and Pitt extended an offer to freshman athlete Denali Campbell from Daytona Beach, Florida. This becomes Campbell’s first Power 5 offer with his first one coming from Eastern Kentucky.
*Pitt assistant QB coach Jonathan DiBiaso extended an offer to freshman quarterback Max Gerlich from Del Valle, Texas. This is the first Power Five offer for Gerlich (6-foot-3, 185 pounds), who also holds an offer from UT-San Antonio.
*Tim Salem extended an offer to 2024 lineman Elijah Kinsler from Bergen Catholic in Somerset, New Jersey. This was Kinsler’s first D-I offer.
*While recruiting in New Jersey, Tim Salem extended an offer to 2024 DE/TE Trumain Lawson (6-foot-5, 240 pounds) from Clifton, New Jersey. This becomes Lawson’s first D-I offer.
With the Showcases, Camps, Social Media hashtags, and star assignments from Rivals and 247Sports (CBS, Scout) sites how much of finding a Recruit is a detriment. Once one School evaluates a Recruit the others pick-up on it from these Sites Offer categories and then tend to Offer as well. I guess the transparency from a Fan following the Recruiting process creates the necessary Hype for Ticket Sales to offset the Competitiveness of getting them Signed.
