(670 The Score) The series finale between the White Sox and Guardians set to be played Wednesday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Cleveland organization.
Multiple members of the Guardians organization tested positive for COVID-19. That included manager Terry Francona, who wasn’t showing symptoms. The postponement came as more testing and contract tracing was needed, MLB said. It marked the first postponement of an MLB game in 2022 due to COVID.
A makeup date for the game wasn’t immediately announced.
The Guardians (15-15) and White Sox (15-14) split the first two games of the series. Cleveland used a six-run rally in the ninth inning to help earn a wild 12-9 win in 11 innings Monday before Chicago won 4-1 on Tuesday.
The White Sox will host the Yankees on Thursday to open a four-game series at Guaranteed Rate Field.
