The Jasper County Sheriff's Office said it is seeking a man who is accused of setting of relative's home on fire.

Darrell Lamar Heyward is wanted on charges of second-degree arson and second-degree burglary, Chief Deputy Jeff Crosby said.

The sheriff's office said officers were called to investigate a suspicious fire off Lowcountry Drive in the Ridgeland area around 6:30 p.m. May 3.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division's arson investigation team processed the scene, Crosby said. He said investigators determined the fire had been deliberately set by a person who had a confrontation with a relative, one of whom was identified as Heyward.

Police said Heyward is a Black male, about 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds. They said he left the scene in an unknown direction.

The sheriff's office asks residents to contact the Detective Division at 843-726-7779 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111 if they have any information about Heyward or the case. It asks that people reference case #22SO9725.
