A Grand Island man charged in the killing of a toddler has pleaded not guilty in his case.
Hall County District Court Records said Ryan Rivera-Meister, 26, pleaded not guilty to one count of committing child abuse resulting in death.
His next court hearing is scheduled for July 21st.
Investigators said Rivera-Meister was babysitting the son of his girlfriend at the time on August 4th, 2016.
Records said he called 911, claiming that the boy had fallen off a bunkbed and was unconscious and not breathing.
He was later taken to a hospital where he died.
Investigators said doctors told them the injuries were too severe to be caused by a fall.
After he was charged, Rivera-Meister fled to Guatemala before being extradited back to Hall County earlier this year.
