Pine River High School's football season ended early because of an ongoing investigation into bullying and harassment within the team.
This investigation started in October Of 2021 and around the same time, Superintendent Matt Lukshaitis shared a news release on the school Facebook page.
“It has become apparent that our current varsity football team has developed a toxic culture that we as a school district cannot accept,” Lukshatis wrote in the October release.
He said through the investigation, the district discovered several instances of hazing and bullying, adding that not every varsity football player was involved, but some stood by saying nothing.
