Four people died in three separate accidents in the region Monday, including two men from Garden City and one from Hays.

The first crash was reported about 12:20 Monday afternoon on U.S. 56, about 1 ½ mile east of McPherson.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2019 Dodge Caravan driven by Robert D. Harrell, 43, of Kansas City, Missouri, was eastbound on the highway when, for unknown reasons, he went left of center at Limestone Road and collided head-on with a 2020 Volvo semi.

Harrell died at the scene. It was unknown if he was wearing a seat belt.

The semi truck driver, Logan R. Donelson, 26, of Lathrop, Missouri, was transported to McPherson Center for Health with suspected serious injuries. Donelson was wearing a seat belt.

The second accident, at 5 p.m., involved a 2016 Toyota Tacoma driven by George P. Korobka, 74, of Hays.

Korobka was westbound on East Santa Fe Road in Phillips County when he came upon a road closed due to a washout some six miles east of Phillipsburg. Korobka attempted to stop, but his vehicle skidded and ran off the road, dropping to the bottom of the washout.

Korobka, who was not wearing a seat belt, also died at the scene.

The third fatal crash occurred just after 5 p.m. on U.S. 50 in Gray County.

The KHP reported a 2007 Chevy Cobalt driven by Paul Robert Rangel, 64, of Garden City, was eastbound on the highway when he drifted onto the south shoulder just east of Pierceville.

He overcorrected when attempting to go back on the road and went left of center, colliding with a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Donald Louis Woosley, 50, of Garden City.

Both drivers died at the scene.
