Sign-up is now underway for 10K, 5K PLUS 1-mile FUN RUN

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today
Sign-up is now underway for 10K, 5K PLUS 1-mile FUN RUN

Fit for Duty fundraiser set for this Sunday

(Seguin) — You’re encouraged to mark your calendars for this Sunday’s Fit for Duty 10K, 5K and 1-Mile Run/Walk. The event hosted by Seguin’s first responders is scheduled for this Saturday at Seguin’s Max Starcke Park.

Jennifer Sourdellia, public information officer for the city of Seguin, says the event benefits bot the Seguin Fire Department and the Seguin Professional Firefighters Association.

“All skill levels are able to come and participate. If you want to bring your kids and run with your kids with the family fun run, you can do that or if you want to just run individually you can do that. We are going to have a so-called Battle of the Badges to see which department gets the most registrations….”

“So, when you register, be sure to choose either fire or police and then wear that designated color. Of course, that’s red for fire or blue for police on race day and all the proceeds from this race are going to help with the purchase of new fitness equipment for all of our first responders and it also benefits the Seguin Professional Firefighters Association,” said Sourdellia.

Sourdellia says they don’t want the name “Fit for Duty” to discourage anyone from signing up. She says the name is for anyone in the community and not just for first responders. She says they also want participants to note that the event is on a Sunday and not on a Saturday like traditional events.

More importantly, she says unlike most run/walk events, this one will cater to all levels of skills.

“Our 10K race is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by the 5K. That’s going to start at noon and then the family 1-mile fun run is going to start at 12:30 p.m.,” said Sourdellia.

Cost for the 5K is $35 or $25 for ages 10 to 16. The cost increases an additional $10 on Saturday and Sunday.

Cost for the 10K is $45 or $25 for ages 10 to 16. After Friday, the cost is an additional $5.

Entry for the 1 mile is $15 or $10 for ages 10 to 16. There is no cost for kids 9 and under.

Friday packet pick-up will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Seguin Parks and Recreation Department.

The link to register can be found on the city of Seguin, Seguin PD or Seguin Fire Department Facebook pages.
