Every year there are a few players whose NBA free agency journeys intrigue a lot of people. Whether it is a mystery surrounding where they will land or how much money they will ultimately sign for, it garners some attention. This offseason, that player could be Collin Sexton.
Sexton has had a lot of naysayers throughout the first four seasons of his career, reportedly including some veteran teammates. He has some shortcomings, as his size limits the impact he can have defensively and he may never develop into a full-fledged lead playmaker.
However, you never have to worry about lack of effort, as he brings it every time he steps on the court. This is also a player that averaged more than 24 points per game, efficiently, in his last healthy season with improving playmaking abilities.
That is someone that teams will be willing to take a chance on, especially when that someone is still only 23-years old. As a restricted free agent, this summer will be a fascinating one for the Alabama product.

It would seem like a no-brainer for the Cleveland Cavaliers to take advantage of the restricted free agency rules and match any offer sheet that he receives. Losing a player of his caliber, despite some of the negativity around him, would be bad for business.
He will garner some interest from teams that have established scoring options or a lead playmaker already in place. One team that could be a potential fit for him is the Houston Rockets.

Houston is in the early stages of a rebuild, but Sexton would fit that timeline age-wise. They should also be on the lookout for a long-term point guard, as Kevin Porter Jr. has shown some flashes but likely is better suited for another role.
A lot of what the Houston Rockets do should be centered around Jalen Green, who came on very strong the second half of the season and looks like the real deal as a go-to, No. 1 option. He and Sexton could combine for years to make a dynamic backcourt offensively that puts a ton of pressure on opposing defenses.

Adding an expensive player via sign-and-trade may go against the rebuilding handbook, but you eventually have to start bringing in players to help win games. If the Cleveland Cavaliers can land Collin Sexton in a deal that includes one of their veterans, such as Eric Gordon, and a first-round pick, it is worth exploring.
