One week ago, owners of Bread Bar at Giminetti Baking Company posted on Facebook saying it was their last day in business on Gilbert Avenue. They said they've sold their building on Gilbert Avenue to a known charter/trade school in the community.
Owners also teased that Giminetti Baking Company would be returning in a few months in a new location with new owners, though, at the time they did not say who the owners would be.
On Tuesday, Giminetti Baking Company announced the owners of Pompilios Italian Restaurant, KHI Food Brands and Sweet Tooth Premium Ice Cream & Candies stepped in to purchase the wholesale bakery.
All three businesses are located in Newport, Kentucky. Pompilios has been serving Italian cuisine to Greater Cincinnati since 1933.
“Believe it or not, Pompilios will be 90 years old next year so we’ve basically been serving Giminetti’s classic Italian white bread since they got started," said Mike Mazzei, owner of Pompilios Italian Restaurant. "Once Jim and Richard told us they were retiring, we knew we had to find a way to keep their iconic bakery alive. We know their bread better than anyone, so we feel confident taking the reins for at least another 37 years.”
Mazzei said he's excited to work with top-rated restaurants in Greater Cincinnati, such as Moerlein Lager House, Pho Lang Tang and Lucius Q.
"Restaurants like that make up the lifeblood of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky," he said.
According to Mazzei, Giminetti Baking Company will be fully operational in the coming weeks.
