Kentucky woman accused of burning child’s foot as punishment

BOONEVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) – An Owsley County woman was arrested Monday on child abuse charges.

The Owsley County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible abuse of a 4-year-old child on April 16. According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, the child received severe burns on both feet.

Multiple interviews and pieces of evidence were used to determine the child’s mother, 28-year-old Alexis Powell of Booneville, caused the burns because the child was misbehaving, according to the sheriff’s office.

The child was first treated for second and third-degree burns at UK Children’s Hospital before being taken to an Ohio burn center.

Powell is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12, endangering the welfare of a minor, and first-degree wanton endangerment.
