Michelle Williams and husband, Thomas Kail, are expanding their family. The oscar-nominated actress, 41, says she’s feeling “totally joyous.”

Michelle Williams, who is also mama to 16-year-old daughter, Matilda, from her relationship with Heath Ledger, and Hart, will be welcoming her second child with husband, Thomas Kail. Kail, 44, is best known for directing “Hamilton.”

The happy couple’s first son, Hart, was born during lockdown in 2020. However young or old your little ones were during the pandemic era, I think we can all agree it was a hard time for everyone. But Williams says raising a child during the pandemic gave her perspective over the dark days.

“It was a reminder that life goes on,” Williams tells Variety. “The world we brought a baby into is not the world we thought we were bringing a baby into, but the baby is ignorant of that.”

The soon-to-be mother of three says that motherhood has made her a better actress and a more dedicated advocate for a better world. Pay equity and reproductive freedoms are two issues she has been involved in recently: In her powerful Emmy speech in 2019, she called for equal for women and women of color specifically.

Her upcoming film, “Showing Up,” is about the joys and frustrations of the creative process. Something, Williams says, is relatable to parenting. “The most ecstatic moments of life and art are the transcendent ones,” Williams tells Variety for their annual Cannes Film Festival issue. “Having children is like that. You combine your DNA with someone else to create a new life.”

Alongside welcoming a baby in 2022, Williams has a busy schedule of premieres and film shoots. But she says she’ll be relaxing soon enough. After completing upcoming projects, the working mom of two (soon-to-be-three!) will be taking a break.

“I wondered if I could work while I was pregnant, but I’m too tired,” she tells Variety. (Same—says every parent everywhere).

Congratulations to the happy couple!
