Geauga Park District is offering two special “Nature’s Not to Be Missed” bird walks on its May schedule.

World Migratory Bird Day Evening Bird Walk with Naturalist Linda Gilbert will take place 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., May 16, at Observatory Park in Montville Township.

The theme of this year’s World Migratory Bird Day is the impact of light pollution on migratory birds – so this evening bird walk will be at the district’s “dark sky” park. Learn about the importance of dark skies for bird migration as the group hikes and listens for migratory birds.

Weather permitting, participants willl also have a telescope focused on the moon and maybe see some birds in their migratory journey.

Then, the Neotropical Bird Walk with Naturalist John Kolar will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., May 21, at Swine Creek Reservation in Middlefield.

Participants will hike the Walnut and Razorback trails in Swine Creek Valley in search of beautiful, neotropical songbirds. Participants should remember to wear waterproof footgear or footgear that they don’t mind getting wet, as the walk will include a stream crossing with water up to two feet deep. People also should bring binoculars.

Register for either walk while there’s still space left at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-286-9516.
