WILLIAMSPORT – A Columbia County man who admitted illegally using COVID-19 relief funds has received the same sentence as the co-defendant that includes sharing in restitution of $431,591.
Darryl Corradini, 63, of Bloomsburg, was sentenced Monday by U.S. Middle District Judge Matthew W. Brann to 18 months in prison followed by three years’ supervised release.
That is the same sentence imposed in February on Vicki Hackenberg, 58, also of Bloomsburg, with whom he is to split the restitution.
They had pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit money laundering. They admitted illegally using Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funds.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) was intended to provide forgivable loans to small businesses facing financial difficulties during the pandemic, the prosecutor said.
Corradini had admitted when he pleaded guilty that in December 2019 he created a shell corporation, CGM Realty LLC, that was used to apply for PPP loans. The corporate address of the business was Hackenberg’s apartment.
The two admitted creating false documents about CGM’s employment and payroll to open business accounts with Bank of America and Bitcoin trading firms Athena Bitcoin Inc. and Athena Investor Services in Chicago.
Corradini is to self-report to prison on June 10.
