Inga Cadranel Reveals the Truth Behind Her GENERAL HOSPITAL Exit

Fans were shocked when Harmony died on GENERAL HOSPITAL, but for portrayer Inga Cadranel, her entire run on the soap has been a roller coaster full of wild ups and downs! When she first joined the cast in February 2019 working for evil cult leader Shiloh, the actress had no idea what she was in for.

“I had no expectations beyond a few episodes and having a good time trying a new medium of work,” Cadranel told Soap Opera Digest. “I thought for sure my character was over when Shiloh died.”

However, the soap kept Harmony around by revealing that she was Willow’s mother, although the later shocker that she’d actually stolen her from her real mother, Nina, didn’t come for quite some time. “We tried to do this storyline a year ago during [the height of] COVID, but I was shooting two shows in Toronto, and flying back and forth was not an option,” Cadranel explained. “So when I returned to L.A., I was very surprised and grateful to Frank [Valentini, GH’s executive producer] for not recasting Harmony when I had declined and was willing to bring me back to do the story when I returned.”

In the end, it turned out Harmony was harboring quite a few shocking secrets, and while viewers were stunned to learn that she had murdered Neil, so was Cadranel! “I was 1,000 percent as shocked as everyone else was,” she admitted. “To be honest, I didn’t like it because it didn’t really make enough sense to me as the ‘why’ Harmony would go so far as murder, but I did know they wanted her to have betrayed Alexis in a major way. So I understood it.”

Like many GH fans, Cadranel was sad to see her Port Charles alter ego bite the dust. “Frank let me know in advance that it was going to be a final, meaningful death,” she confided. “I knew my contract was coming to an end and that was fine because I have other projects I am working on, but I thought it may be the type of storyline that would have Harmony disappear or leave [town] so that door could always be open down the road. I was definitely surprised when he told me he and the writers decided that Harmony was going to die.”
