(WLUK) -- As fire danger remains very high across most of Wisconsin, the Department of Natural Resources is releasing video of one wildfire in the northwestern part of the state.
The Upland Fire took place Saturday in Burnett County. The DNR's fire management dashboard reports it burned 18.7 acres. Fourteen buildings were listed as having been threatened, but none were damaged.
The cause of the fire was not listed.
The DNR video shows flames as well as firefighting material being dropped from an airplane.
High winds forecast for Monday are expected to keep the fire danger in the very high category. Although much of the spring was very wet, plants are just beginning to green up, so they remain vulnerable to fire.
To reduce the risk of starting a fire, the DNR recommends:
- Avoid all outdoor burning until conditions improve. Burn permits for debris burning are currently suspended in numerous counties.
- Operate equipment (chainsaws, off-road vehicles, lawn mowers, etc.) early in the morning or late in the day to avoid sparks at peak burn hours.
- Secure dragging trailer chains.
- Delay having campfires until the evening hours as fire conditions tend to improve; keep them small and contained. Make sure they are completely extinguished before leaving them unattended.
- Report fires early, dial 911.
