Technology within the dance music industry is moving at a rapid pace, and the trend continues with deadmau5’s and Richie Hawtin’s new gaming venture, Pixelynx.

Pixelynx is a music gaming platform created by musicians and technologists deadmau5, Hawtin and music and gaming industry veterans Ben Turner, Dean Wilson and Inder Phull. The company, based in London and Los Angeles, is focused on building a music metaverse that transforms the way artists connect and engage with their fans through gaming experiences. Indeed, Pixelynx is shaping the future of music by giving artists the means to put power back in their own hands. More information on Pixelynx and its community can be found on the Pixelynx Discord.

According to deadmau5, the platform is “healthy” for community building. He adds that this platform was sparked by metaverses creating forms of event production during the pandemic. “Web3, to me, just for music and creation, screams liberation from the social norms that we know,” deadmau5 says in the video of how music gets on a [digital signal processor].”

In addition, Hawtin says that he used early versions of touch designer, which gives artists real time visualization, audio visual connections and pipeline, in 2004. “This is just another extension of using technology to reach out and connect to likeminded people and share in experiences,” he says in the video. “I think music, in its present form, is pretty archaic. It’s solid. That’s what it is. You can’t break it apart. You can’t really interact with it,” Hawtin notes.

In an exclusive video shared with Forbes, the two sat down at International Music Summit Ibiza for a virtual conversation discussing the music metaverse and Pixelynx. During the talk, Hawtin and deadmau5 break down the new Web3 frontier for artists and fans, showcasing how creators can continue growing their communities in new and meaningful ways. "Web3 is the flagbearer of transparency for an artist," deadmau5 says.
